Children’s eye tests are free on the nhs
your child will often have sight trouble without you realising
Your child’s eye sight is key part of their social and educational development. The vast majority of a what young child is taught within the classroom is visual based. This is why at Sage Opticians we take your child’s sight in our hands with great responsibility.
Most children will have basic eye checks as part of their early development but these tests are usually not comprehensive or offered by a qualified eye specialist.
Poor sight is routinely a cause of behaviour trouble and learning problems for a child but these are often masked and blamed on other factors. Children will not complain about sight trouble usually because they do not know any different and because it can be difficult for a child to express their symptoms in the same way an adult does.
Many children are born with a amblyopia (lazy eye) or a squint which require early diagnosis to enable a successful long-term visual outcome that does not leave the child’s sight compromised.
We recommend that are children are tested just before they start school to give them the best chance of a visually successful schooling life.
WHAT HAPPENS IN A CHILDREN'S EYE EXAM?
A child’s eye examination is considerably different to an adults eye examination. On many occasions it can be nervous experience for a young person to be within an unfamiliar surrounding.
At Sage Opticians we cater for all ages, and this is no different when it comes to your child. We have specialised testing charts that can demonstrate pictures/shapes and other characters that may be more familiar to your child.
Worried about reliability? Our Optometrists are trained to assess your child’s prescription and eye health accurately without the need of the child’s responses. Our eye exams for children are just as accurate and thorough as those we offer our adults even though we may use different testing equipment.
Sometimes we will use drops in your child’s eyes to accurately determine your childs prescription. These drops are designed to relax your child’s eyes to make sure nothing is left to chance. Your Optometrist on the day would discuss this with you should there be a need for such tests.
We have a dedicated children’s spectacle range at Sage Opticians to ensure your child not only has excellent clarity from there glasses but also looks great in them too.
